Шотландец, граф Яков Вилимович Брюс (James Daniel Bruce, 1669–1735) известен как один из ближайших сподвижников Петра I, крупный государственный деятель, военачальник, дипломат, инженер и ученый. Ему принадлежало и одно из самых крупных в России книжных собраний. Так, в 1725 г. наиболее большая по своей численности петровская библиотека насчитывала около трех с половиной тысяч книг, а библиотечное собрание Я.В. Брюса, абсолютно доступное царю, превышало 1600 томов. Примечательно, что действенную помощь в формировании императорской библиотеки неизменно оказывал тот же Яков Брюс: именно с ним и следует связывать появление в библиотеке царя лондонского издания сочинения одного из ключевых фигур итальянского Возрождения, теоретика и знатока античной архитектуры Андреа Палладио, указанной в реестре Рисовальной конторы как «Архитектура Паладиева, из италианскаго на аглинской переведена в Лондоне 1715 году». Показательно в данной связи и то, что именно по поручению Петра I с 1705 г. Брюс одно время надзирал за московской типографией В. Куприанова, где занимался редактированием и переводом подготавливаемых к печати отечественных изданий.

В статье впервые раскрываются особенности, присущие одной из важнейших частей крупного книжного собрания Я. Брюса, которая так или иначе отвечает специфике архитектурного творчества.

The relevance of the study is caused by the complete absence of works on this topic in both domestic and foreign specialized literature. The Scotsman, Count Yakov Vilimovich Bruce (James Daniel Bruce, 1669–1735) is known as one of the closest associates of Peter I, a major statesman, military commander, diplomat, engineer and scientist. He also owned one of the largest book collections in Russia. So, in 1725, the largest by its number Petrine library numbered about three and a half thousand books, and the library collection of Y.V. Bruce, absolutely accessible to the tsar, exceeded 1,600 volumes. It is noteworthy that the same Yakov Bruce invariably provided effective assistance in the formation of the imperial library. It is due to him that the London edition of the work of one of the key figures of the Italian Renaissance, the theorist and connoisseur of ancient architecture Andreo Palladio, listed in the register of the Drawing Office as “Architecture of Paladiev, from the Italian on Aglin-translated in London in 1715” appeared in the tsar’s library. It is also significant in this regard that it was on behalf of Peter I that Bruce from 1705 on supervised for some time the Moscow printing house of V. Kuprianov, where he was engaged in editing and translating domestic publications being prepared for printing.

For the first time, the article reveals the features inherent in one of the most important parts of the large book collection of J. Bruce, which somehow meets the specifics of architectural creativity.
