<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>The tradition of renewal in Japan is not merely a technical or ritual practice, but a fundamental philosophical and aesthetic principle that permeates the entire history of Japanese architecture and urban planning, from sacred structures to modern metropolises. It is widely known that Japan’s main Shinto shrine, the Ise Jingu, is distinguished by its ritual of periodic reconstruction. Every 20 years, the buildings of both the main and secondary structures of the Ise Shrine are recreated anew on an adjacent site, while the old ones are dismantled. In this process, the new buildings precisely replicate the appearance and construction techniques of the ancient temples. This cyclically repeated ritual holds not only religious significance but also reveals the very foundation of Japanese culture. The aim of this article is to trace the manifestation of the principle of renewal across various scales and different historical epochs of Japanese architecture and to demonstrate how the tradition of renewal fundamentally influences contemporary methods of sustainable development in Japanese architecture.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>святилище Исэ</kwd><kwd>преемственность традиций</kwd><kwd>синтоизм</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Ise shrine</kwd><kwd>continuity of traditions</kwd><kwd>Shinto</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">Асахи Симбун 1954 — Коллекция шедевров фотографии Асахи Симбун. 1954.</mixed-citation><mixed-citation xml:lang="en">Konovalova N.A.
