Статья посвящена сочинению видного британского архитектора Дж.Г. Скотта «Заметки о гражданской и жилой архитектуре» и, в частности, рассмотренным в ней автором проблемам загородного жилого строительства. Дж.Г. Скотт на протяжении всей своей долгой жизни сочетал активное занятие архитектурной практикой в самых разных областях строительства с теоретическим осмыслением процессов, происходящих в современной ему архитектуре. Таким образом, рассматриваемая книга стала результатом многолетнего опыта в том числе и в области проектирования самых разных по своим масштабам объектов жилой архитектуры, от скромного коттеджа до аристократических резиденций. В главе, посвященной этой сфере архитектурной деятельности, автор обсуждает вопросы, связанные с приоритетными задачами и проблемами архитектуры загородного жилища. Этот материал представляет несомненный интерес для историка викторианской архитектуры и заслуживает детального рассмотрения, поскольку в сочинении Дж.Г. Скотта как в зеркале отражены важнейшие проблемы и тенденции викторианского зодчества.

Thе article explores the work “Remarks on Civil and Domestic Architecture” by British architect G.G. Scott, and in particular, its overview of suburban residential construction. Throughout his long career, G.G. Scott combined active engagement with a wide range of construction disciplines with a theoretical understanding of contemporary architectural processes. Thus, this book is the result of years of experience in designing residential buildings of varying scales, from modest cottages to aristocratic residences. In the chapter devoted to this area of architectural activity the author discusses issues  related to the priorities and design solutions for suburban housing. This material is of undoubted interest to historians of Victorian construction, as G.G. Scott’s work reflects important issues and features of Victorian architecture.
