<trans-abstract xml:lang="en"><p>This article is part of a research effort exploring the design thinking of contemporary architects. It examines the design method of John Hejduk (1929–2000), an architect of the second half of the 20th century recognized as one of the central figures of the 1960s–80s, currently known only within narrow circles of architectural theory and education. The originality of the architect’s work, which established Hejduk as a master, has been linked by researchers to characters and themes from fairy tales, literature, and folklore. He has been called a film director, a playwright, a poet. The possibility of architecture operating in the realm of fantasy and imagination has been discussed in the context of his work. However, an analysis of Hejduk’s buildings, projects, and individual drawings has revealed regularities in his architectural objects within which the images and plots, considered by researchers to be the architect’s primary creative impulse, are merely the result of a system of spatial and geometric relationships constructed by him while the design process. The article attempts to explain the mechanism of generation of extra-architectural themes based on specifically architectural material — spatial and geometric constructions.</p></trans-abstract><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>проектный метод</kwd><kwd>тематизация геометрии</kwd><kwd>современная архитектура</kwd><kwd>Джон Хейдук</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>design method</kwd><kwd>thematisation of geometry</kwd><kwd>contemporary architecture</kwd><kwd>John Hejduk</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><title>References</title><ref id="cit1"><label>1</label><citation-alternatives><mixed-citation xml:lang="ru">John Hejduk fonds — John Hejduk fonds, 1947–2000, predominant 1947-1996 // Canadian Centre for Architecture.
