Рассмотрение геометрии и риторики в их историческом развитии как взаимосвязанных и взаимодополняющих дисциплин и возможных техник или методов осмысления и моделирования, описания и репрезентации в архитектуре позволяет говорить о геометрии риторики как создании пространственно-временных, физических и виртуальных, понятийных и предметных отношений с помощью риторических средств как в сфере языка, так и текста; или риторике геометрии как моделировании риторических фигур, в том числе умозрительных и физических организационных и топологических структур, понятийных и семантических конструкций, с использованием геометрических элементов и правил. При этом характер и способы возможного взаимодействия геометрии и риторики могут выявляться как на уровне исторического изучения и теоретического осмысления архитектуры, так и с инструментальной точки зрения создания архитектурного произведения. Исторические предпосылки и принципы взаимосвязи геометрии и риторики в архитектуре и архитектурной теории прослеживаются уже в трактате Витрувия, где их взаимодействие проявляется посредством геометрического осмысления (ratiocination) канонической риторической структуры.
The inquiry into historical formation of geometry and rhetoric as coherent and complementary disciplines, and permissible techniques or methods of comprehending and modeling, description and representation in architecture, permits one to talk of the geometry of rhetoric as a way of producing spatial-temporal, physical and virtual, ideal and substantive relations by means of rhetorical tools both in the realm of language and that of text; or conversely, of the rhetoric of geometry as a way of simulating rhetorical figures, ideal and physical ordering and topological, conceptual and semantic systems and structures among them, through the use of geometrical elements and rules. Therefore, the character and modes of possible relations between geometry and rhetoric would become apparent both in historical studies or theoretical reasoning of architecture, and through instrumentality of architectural invention. The historical premises and the principles of affinity between geometry and rhetoric in architecture and architectural theory, can be traced back already to the treatise of Vitruvius, where their cohesion has manifested itself through the geometric reasoning (ratiocination) on the canonical rhetoric structure.
